The uniform of Colonel Robert Carson Brown, Great Grandfather of United States Senator Sherrod Brown, was stolen from the Richland County Museum in the early 1970's. The items were then sold at an auction in Delaware County, Ohio and remained in private "collections" for decades. Presumably, these items were lost to history forever. In 2008, thanks to the efforts of the Ohio in the Civil War Network (owner and founder Brett Mitchell), historian Kent Dorr, and Richland County Sheriff Rich Eichinger the items were retrieved. RSS feeds implemented by Brett Mitchell at OhioCivilWar.org led to the initial discovery of the items posted at Ebay.com. The Ebay seller was unaware of the item's history of theft. The determined group of secured the assets for the state of Ohio and the citizens of Richland County. The grouping will again be on display, thanks to Senator Sherrod Brown, for all citizens to see at the Richland County Ohio Historical Society. View the recovered items online at OhioCivilWar.org.
